Sapperton Trial…
Stroud Valley Mc’s Sapperton Cup trial was held in cool but dry conditions up at Breakheart Quarry, Dursley, on the 7th Nov. A good turn out of riders may have been surprised at how dry many of the wooded sections turned out to be, and some low scores were recorded in all classes. Well done to ex downhill mtb star turned TV presenter Rob Warner on the overall win…

ACU centre Minchinhampton Cup Trial 29/08/10…
Just over 70 riders turned out for the Minchinhampton Cup event held by the Stroud Valley MC on Sunday. This event caters for Novice, Inters, twinshock and pre 65 machine riders and they could have been forgiven for expected a mud fest after what seems like a month of rain in the area. But Nigel Tompkins and his band of helpers had laid on a perfect event for all classes, helped considerably by the quick draining soil in the woods and the heavy tree cover that prevented even the rain shower on the day from penetrating to ground level.
Although most of the sections were dry it only took one rider to spin up on the roots and rocks just under the surface to dramatically alter the section severity and this was very apparent at the ninth where a loose rocky climb up a small water course ended with a double root step out that appeared a piece of cake on first view. Two riders was all it took to drag water and mud onto the roots and the carnage started! Several over or into the bars accidents were witnessed and this section was the main point taker for all classes, and the tenth continued up the same rock path and ended with a muddy climb out of the ditch. The Minchinghampton cup winner for best Novice performance, Merv Walker, lost just a single dab on the 9th but added 7 to his score on the 10th. In fact the only rider to clean section 9 all day was Dave Dawson on his lovely 250 BSA, on the way to the best pre 65 performance…. only Inter winner Tim Wheeler on his yellow Scorpa managed a lower score than Dave, losing just 5 all day. The easier alternative route sections also gave some low scores and a close finish… So close that Tony Sullivan and Rob Cobley could only be separated by most clean, having both finished on 9 marks. Of course, Rob was cheating by riding a modern bike, Tony being on a 200 Cotswold twinshock! Andy Chivers could have joined them in the tie-break but for a single dab on the very last section….
