This weekend Stroud Valley Motorcycle Club held the Sapperton Cup trial at Breakheart quarry. It was a brisk fresh day with the odd spell of sunshine. 55 riders spread across four routes including a separate conducted course for youths and beginners.
Oxfordshire visitor Rob Warner was the winner of the expert route with 10 marks dropped closely followed by local rider Ben Toms who will be cursing the extra 3 marks incurred on the relatively easy section 8. Robs’ travelling companion Joe Harris came 3rd with 15 marks dropped. The best youth of the day was Joel Edwards who came 3rd in the overall results but is too young to take that position in the final results!! Henry Bendall, current Western Centre championship leader, finished in a low 10th place after dropping 31 marks.
The 50/50 route was won by ex cycle trials star Kurt Brain who had a respectable 16 marks dropped, and was the clear leader over second place Nathan Pekala on 22.
The Alternative route was won by Tim Wheeler who managed to clean the whole trial on his twinshock Yamaha, after having his distinctive yellow Scorpa stolen in the week…(more details) Andy Perry and Nick Toms were more or less inseparable losing 8 marks each.
Matt Franklin also had a clean ride on the easy route, but credit must also go to best Pre 65 Mike Ellis who dropped just 10 marks on his HT5.
The conductive course was a first for Stroud Valley and was a family affair with the Walker family being the only entries, but all appeared to have a good time.
